Italian cities and then to other European countries. Nowadays
Carnival celebrations take place in towns and cities all over the
world. The Carnival is a celebration or colourful parade with some
elements of a circus and public street party. People often dress up or
put on masks during these celebrations.
The amazing Carnival in Rio de Janeiro takes place between late
February and early March. It is the most famous holiday in Brazil.

visit Rio de Janeiro to enjoy this unforgettable celebration.
Carnival Sunday is seven weeks before Easter Sunday. The main
event – the Samba Parade – starts at 9 p.m. on Sunday. This samba
marathon is more than an explosion of music and brilliant colours, it
is also a competition. Thousands of excited participants arrive in the
city. They dance in the streets and watch the parade lasting all night.
The focus of the main parade are the samba dance schools. They
work hard to prepare their costumes and to find the best music for
their show. In front of Copacabana beach, dancers in colourful
costumes demonstrate their dancing skills and have fun. The whole
city, from the youngest children to the oldest men and women, takes
part in this colourful celebration. This is the ideal time for the whole
family to have a good time together.
